DYLAN FURNESS

NESS PROJECT

Dylan Furness is a Graduate in BA Hons Fashion from The School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. His graduate collection in Menswear was centred around a dystopian city where camouflage is a vital part of day-to-day life.

“I used military inspiration throughout my designs whilst incorporating unconventional materials and distressed fabrics.

Now based at The Yard Atelier, I have created my own fashion brand named ‘NESS PROJECT’ producing limited garments for everyday wear whilst still keeping in theme with my abstract design philosophy.”

From a young age Dylan was captivated by fiction and storytelling through animated movies and comic books, and as he grew older and developed a love for fashion, he found himself drawn to pushing boundaries and creating bold unconventional looks to wear together, in order to capture his creativity. Realising he wanted to blend his love for storytelling with design and crafting, his belief was that what he wore was not just an outfit, but a narrative of whom he was becoming.

“I love to create unconventional pieces that are inspired by various utilitarian and military aesthetics – multi-way | multi-function | multiple pocketed, and inspiration from the Ghillie suits (imagine a stealth suit that camouflages the body’s natural silhouette) and textured camouflage. Sustainability is integrated into each item I make and I currently use excess stock camouflage fabrics creating exclusive pieces. My passion for using strong elements that come from tailored jackets and coats together with structured lines in my silhouettes is important to my design process. My appreciation of perfection when constructing and sewing helps to give these items a feel of magnificence and was fortunate to learn tailoring skills whilst studying for a semester in Paris learning from establish Ateliers there.”

Today, often inspired by dystopian themes, Dylan aims to transport viewers into a futuristic world where his design ethos is to empower fashion as a force of storytelling and grabbing the Metaverse as a point of reach for future projects he is excited to see what lies ahead.
