Meet the Team

The Yard Atelier is founded by a team of industry lead academic experts, with a wealth of experience in both working in fashion and teaching on various fashion courses at University level.

Their combined experience and expert knowledge ensures they can provide members with bespoke mentorships on a number of fashion subjects. They see the value of how important it is to re-introduce traditional making skills to help bring back the quality of how a garment is made, to slow down the fast fashion process, to re-discover and share what went before, and aim to pass on their practice and ‘know-how’ to the next gen of creatives.

Their Vision

Having a love of the history of fashion with a passion for Haute Couture, those iconic names that came from the Parisian Couture Houses where innovators such as Gabrielle Chanel and Christian Dior made their mark in fashion history shaped what we wear today.

This has provoked a landscape beyond most of our dreams in terms of owning a piece of couture, as these beautifully made items have longevity but are costly and sadly not available to the masses. We know these exquisite items have lasted decades as we see them wonderfully curated in exhibitions around the world from time to time.

The need to source materials wisely, recycle re-use renew and rethink what we can in all areas of fashion and encourage on-shore design and make, is at the centre of what we will become. The Yard Atelier aims to establish a local fashion community through commitment and strive to breathe newness from the heart of Manchester.

“Our graduates and new business start-ups today are tomorrows leaders. We are looking to slow down the fashion cycle and move towards a more circular and sustainable landscape where quality, beauty and longevity belongs in every garment created in the Atelier.”

“I know how difficult it is to get the support you need in the early years of setting up a design business. I truly believe Manchester has a very strong fashion network which needs young fledgling companies with their vision of craft and objectivity.
